Operating principle
The melt pressure acts on a diaphragm. The diaphragm deformation is proportional to the applied pressure and is detected by a strain gauge. The instrument then provides an output signal such as mV/V, 4-20 mA or Vdc depending on the selected model.
Typical applications
Common locations in extrusion include the barrel, filter, before and after the pump, and the die. Each point helps diagnose process conditions, detect clogging, protect equipment and stabilize flow.
Selection data
- Maximum and normal operating pressure.
- Material temperature and diaphragm area temperature.
- Existing thread or mechanical connection.
- Stem length and available space.
- Output signal: mV/V, 4-20 mA, 0-10 V or other.
- Electrical connector, cable, environment and certifications.
For replacements, a photo of the installed transducer or nameplate helps identify range, thread and output signal.
